Surrounded by ranches and mountain wilderness, Jackson Hole has long been associated with cowboys and rugged outdoor adventure. Since the opening of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in 1965, skiing has drawn millions of visitors to the valley. But not everyone is satisfied with a day on the slopes followed by a steak and beer in town. Today, Jackson Hole also reflects the desires of the worldly, upscale visitor.
The town of Jackson, while remaining distinctly western, is in a constant state of "upgrading." Teton Village, at the base of the Mountain Resort, has been growing in leaps and bounds (and log and stone). Even Jackson Hole's classic red Ski Tram has been decommissioned, with a newer model scheduled to replace it. Traveler demographics are changing, and much of Jackson Hole's growth is geared toward attracting more diverse and affluent visitors.
You can still ride a snowmobile all day and saddle up for a beer at the famous Cowboy Bar in Jackson. Vertical Media's offering also includes a complimentary buffalo meat gift pack. Any cowpoke or mountain man can appreciate that! But if you prefer sushi and a massage -- you can easily find both in Jackson Hole these days.
