Perceptions of Training and Development in the Gaming Industry

Notable results were found in a data analysis of training satisfaction in the gaming and casino industry. Legal departments rank the highest with training satisfaction, while Operations and IT / MIS rank among the lowest.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 20, 2006 -- HR Solutions Inc., a Chicago-based management consulting firm, has recently completed an analysis of employee satisfaction data by department within the gaming industry. Notable results were found with regards to the Training and Development aspect of Job Satisfaction.

5 Casino Departments Most Satisfied with Training and Development (% favorable)
Legal, 86%
Valet, 74%
Marine Operations, 73%
Housekeeping, 70%
Purchasing, 69%

5 Casino Departments Least Satisfied with Training and Development (% favorable
Entertainment, 50%
Operations, 52%
IT / MIS, 54%
Administrative, 60%
Finance / Accounting, 60%

The top-ranking departments include groups that are either well-trained upon entry to the workforce (i.e. Lawyers), or groups that require very little training because of the nature of the role (Valet; Housekeeping). With regards to the lower-scoring departments, HR Solutions' Senior Consultant Andy Foote observes, "Finance and accounting tend to be concerned with the legal consequences of not being trained to follow certain procedures. Those job functions within the gaming industry often come with additional pressures, as well." Foote also adds that IT / MIS departments often feel that they do not have the opportunity to keep up with fast-moving industry developments, and are often denied training because executives do not always see the ROI associated with additional training for the IT staff.

It is recommended that leaders within the gaming industry take this data into account when devising training and development plans for their organizations.

This new normative data provides gaming organizations with a better external benchmark to gauge their organizations' employee satisfaction within departments in their organization. The national normative gaming research data included roughly 37,000 employees in 27 gaming organizations all surveyed within the last three years by HR Solutions, Inc.
