Elite Design Leadership Summit Reveals New Trends

Beth Slifer recently attended the Waterworks Design Leadership Summit in Montecito, California, where an elite group in the design industry gathered to advance their development and discuss trends.

(PRWEB) November 3, 2006 -- The elite in the world of design recently gathered in California for the Montectio Design '06 Leadership Summit, hosted by Waterworks. The goal of this annual event (the first one was held last year in Aspen, CO), organized by Keith Granet of Granet and Associates, is to advance the development of the design community. Beth Slifer, creative director and chief executive officer for Slifer Designs was among the 100 participants who were invited.

A keynote address by Vanity Fair's Editor-in-Chief, Graydon Carter provided the initial commentary. In addition, other notable attendees include Paul Goldberger, the Architecture Critic for The New Yorker and of Parsons/The New School, Tom Kelly from Ideo, Shawn Henderson, design director for eBay home decor, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia's president of merchandising, Robin Marino, Richard Wright of the Wright auction house and David Easton, one of the world's most sought after designers.

Peer-to peer brainstorming and discussions on a variety of design related topics took place including exploring the future of design in the 21st century, building a design brand in today's media climate and capitalizing on creativity.

"Our peer-group discussions were very insightful," said Slifer. "To be included in this group is an honor and of course, helpful to Slifer Designs.

"One of the most important topics discussed is that design literacy in the mass market has increased, which creates a more knowledgeable client, who is appreciative of good design. This helps us strengthen our ties with our client and increases the collaborative effort toward the final product," Slifer continued. "We also focused on how much American businesses and individuals value creativity more than ever before."

Slifer and her peers discussed how the 21st century is over "wallpaper" and minimalism and is more about creating wonder, exuberant design and having fun with color and extravagance. "There is also more inspiration from animals and plants, for example, table legs with hooves, and tree designs incorporated into table bases."

Slifer Designs, an international authority on luxury resort interior design, specializes in high-end resort residential and hospitality projects as well as a retail showroom featuring designs from Michael Aram, Hickory Chair, Henredon, Ralph Lauren and Century among many others. The showroom is open daily in the Riverwalk at Edwards, next to Starbucks.
