London, UK (PRWEB) November 3, 2006 -- Technological progress has reduced the cost of living for consumers in almost every way over recent years, with the notable exception of one area – buying tickets to events.
A new survey by eTickets.to has revealed that consumers pay an average 18% booking fee when they buy tickets online.
This 'ticket tax' goes straight to the booking agent, the intermediary who buys tickets from the event promoter and sells them to the customer. This industry is dominated by a handful of major players with a stranglehold on the market. In this age of pervasive Internet technology, is the role of a ticket agent even needed and can they justify such extortionate fees?
eTickets.to, a new breed of online event ticketing solution, doesn't think so. They provide event promoters with a way to sell e-tickets for their events directly to their customers, bypassing the need for a ticket agent and slashing the costs for consumers.
eTickets.to founder Matt McNeill explains "We started eTickets.to because we were fed up paying such high booking fees when ordering tickets. We couldn't see how they could be justified and thought that there must be a better way – so we decided to develop a solution. eTickets.to make extortionate booking fees a thing of the past - the promoter has total control of the ticketing process and the consumer can benefit from lower ticket costs."
The entire process is electronic, with tickets delivered instantly by email, so there's no expensive postage and nothing to get lost (eTickets can be reissued securely in seconds). Event promoters simply download a list of sales and validate each ticket's security code as the guests arrive (like running a guest list).
Through the etickets.to website any event promoter can start selling tickets for their events in minutes and they get the revenue directly from the customer. eTickets.to don't charge booking fees, they simply charge a flat fee per ticket sold (60p) to the event promoter.
eTickets.to is suitable for any size of event as there are no minimum charges, so now even school plays and community theatres can benefit from selling tickets online. Clients during the test phase ranged from small club nights to the 45,000 capacity Exit Festival in Serbia. All transaction data belongs to the promoter, so they don't have to share their valuable customer data with a third party agent that may also be acting for their competitors.
eTickets.to was founded by Matt McNeill, who also founded Sign-Up Technologies, the company behind Sign-Up.to, the permission-based email and mobile marketing system.
