Ridge Web Design 'Galway Entrepreneur Index' Remains Steady; Entrepreneurship Per Capita Lower Than Limerick and Cork

(PRWEB) November 5, 2006 -- Ridge Web ( www.ridge-web.ie ) today releases the Galway Entrepreneur Index for October, showing the number of new Galway based businesses registered at the Companies Registration Office (CRO) in October 2006.

The figures show that while Galway dominates entrepreneurship in the West of Ireland by a substantial amount, new businesses registered compared to population is lower than that of Cork and Limerick.

In October 74 new businesses were registered in Galway. This figure is only slightly less than the entire figures for Mayo, Roscommon and Clare, demonstrating that Galway remains the entrepreneurial hub of the west by a considerable distance. Comparing the number with Septembers figures of 80 new businesses registered it is clear that growth in new businesses remains steady within the county.

However, as a percentage of population (from the 2006 census) Galway falls behind both Cork and Limerick in the entrepreneurial stakes for October. As the chart below shows, Cork had one new business for every 758 people, Limerick had one new business for every 784 people but Galway had only one new business registered in October for every 973 people.

There are no immediately identifiable reasons why this should be the case, and it will be interesting to track this trend over the next year to understand if Limerick and Cork continue to outperform Galway for entrepreneurship per capita.
