Harlequin Breathes Life Back into Author's Vampire Series

Four years ago, award-winning author Caridad Pineiro was told that her vampire book would never sell. Today, that one book has spawned the successful THE CALLING Vampire series which is helping Silhouette launch Nocturne, its paranormal romance line.

Edison, NJ (PRWEB) November 5, 2006 -- THE CALLING vampire series began in 2004 under Silhouette's Intimate Moments imprint with "Darkness Calls." "Danger Calls" and "Temptation Calls" followed in June and October of 2005 and all three books have now sold out. Books in the series have been nominated for and/or received various awards, such as the Affaire de Coeur 2004 Reader's Poll, Harlequin 2004 Reader's Poll, Top 5 Pick for 2005 from Catalina Magazine and the 2005 RIO Reviewers Awards.

The success of the earlier books in THE CALLING is what led Harlequin to select Pineiro's DEATH CALLS as one of the launch titles. In addition, Harlequin is breathing new life into the series by releasing the three first books in December in an e-book version which will be available at eharlequin.com.

Caridad is no stranger to e-books as her September 2006 release from Simon & Schuster, SEX AND THE SOUTH BEACH CHICAS, is also available in this format.

"E-Books allow readers to have the books in a convenient format that some find easier to read since they can enlarge the type," Pineiro notes. She has found at her various book events that many older readers complain that the font in many books is too small for them to read comfortably. But Pineiro is also excited that the re-release in e-book form will permit those who missed earlier books in the series to get the background. "Especially since Nocturne will be releasing at least three more stories in THE CALLING series," Pineiro indicates.

DEATH CALLS, the December 2006 release, will be followed by DEVOTION CALLS and BLOOD CALLS in January and May 2007 respectively. In addition, Harlequin will be offering a free e-read novella, DESIRE CALLS, at eharlequin.com in April.

With five releases, 2007 marks a banner year for Pineiro who will also have a follow-up to her women's fiction novel in September with SOUTH BEACH CHICAS CATCH THEIR MAN and a paranormal anthology with Maggie Shayne, Susan Sizemore and Lori Handeland from Pocket Books in October.
