Educator Gives Practical Advise to Adults for Mentoring Teens
Mentoring Teens: A Resource Guide by Carol L. Miller shows how to impact and change the lives of teenagers.
Fort Collins, CO (PRWEB) November 5, 2006 -- Mentor and former youth program director Carol Miller, in her groundbreaking book, Mentoring Teens: A Resource Guide, presents practical techniques and resources for mentors who are helping present-focused, immediate-gratification-only teens grow into happy and responsible adults.
According to author Carol Miller, a staggering number of today's teenagers struggle under the weight of demanding and unrealistic expectations, as well as negative peer pressure. Many of them have no one in their lives with the time or expertise to help them. Mentors, suggests Miller, are the solution.
A teacher, advocate and mentor for at-risk adolescents, Miller draws on her years of experience working with all kinds of students to create this comprehensive and helpful manual. She explores how mentors can help teens improve life skills and academic achievement and decrease dangerous behaviors. Using personal anecdotes, examples and guides, Miller shows mentors how to be more effective, while providing strategies for developing strong relationships with teenagers. She gives mentors the tools they need to improve a teen's self-concept and get a teen talking openly about his or her life. Study skills and career planning are also expertly covered and come with very clear examples of resumes and practice interviews. Teenagers are our future. With the help of this wise, fact-filled and helpful guide, that future can be bright.
