Honor Loved Ones with Diabetes During American Diabetes Month

In honor of National Diabetes Month, the American Diabetes Association is asking Americans to honor their loved ones with a donation in their name to the American Diabetes Association. Donations support diabetes research for a cure and education and advocacy programs that improve the lives of those living with diabetes.

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) November 6, 2006 -- This November is American Diabetes Month and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) is asking for your help in supporting the millions of Americans who have the disease at http://www.diabetes.org/donate.

Chances are you know at least one child or adult who has diabetes or has a loved one with diabetes – not surprising, since nearly 21 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes. And another 54 million Americans have pre-diabetes, putting them at serious risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

Did you know that:

– Diabetes kills more people than breast cancer and AIDS each year.
– People with diabetes are two to four times more likely to suffer a stroke than people without diabetes.
– One in three Americans – and one in two minorities – born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime, if current trends continue.

Here's how you can help:

Consider a donation in honor or in memorial of a loved one to the American Diabetes Association at htttp://www.diabetes.org/donate.

You can make your donation in the name of a loved one – and send the recipients a personalized donation announcement by email or by mail. Your gift will show your love for someone affected by diabetes and help millions of others battle the disease.

During Diabetes Month, the amount of your donation could also double – without giving more. Equal®, the maker of the zero calorie sweetener has generously offered to match donations – dollar-for-dollar – up to a campaign total of $50,000. So, if you give $50, your donation could double to $100! Your donation will support diabetes research and education and advocacy programs that improve the quality of life for those with diabetes.

Go online now to http://www.diabetes.org/donate to make your donation or call
1-800-342-2383.

The American Diabetes Association is the leading non-profit health organization dedicated to preventing and curing diabetes and to improving the lives of the nearly 21 million children and adults currently living with the disease. Visit online at http://www.diabetes.org for information in English and Spanish.
