Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) November 6, 2006
Wikia, Inc., the leading site for developing and hosting community-based wikis, today announced that the Campaigns Wikia ( online at: http://campaigns.wikia.com ) continues to grow into a valuable, easy-to-use, impartial resource for voters and politicians around the world. Launched on July 4, 2006, Jimmy Wales created Campaigns Wikia to provide people on all sides of the political spectrum a central forum to gather and share their diverse political perspectives.
"With the U.S. election season in full swing, voters are being bombarded with party-driven, paid-for information about candidates and ballot initiatives," said Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikia. "Unfortunately, this causes confusion and overshadows the real issues at hand. It is exciting to see people turn to Campaigns Wikia as an impartial resource where they're able to learn and contribute to a non-partisan dialogue about what really matters."
The Campaigns Wikia currently has more than 600 articles about the political happenings in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, Canada and the U.S., including candidate information and history, election schedules, and impartial voter guides—all created by volunteers. All content on the site can be freely edited and viewed by anyone; in fact, in roughly four months it has been translated into nine languages, including Italian, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Hungarian, Chinese, Japanese, and English.
As part of his mission to spread the notion of participatory politics, Wales has personally met with people around the world who are interested in contributing to Campaigns Wikia. Because voters are increasingly turning to the Internet as a resource for political information and discussion, it is imperative that resources like Campaigns Wikia continue to grow and evolve.
