Volunteer Work is a Duty of Every Christian According to ChristiaNet Poll

Volunteer work is one of the top five responsibilities of every Christian according to http://www.christianet.com/volunteers.htm.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 8, 2006 -- ChristiaNet.com (http://www.christianet.com), the world's largest Christian portal with 12 million monthly page loads, conducted a new poll asking readers to respond to the question, "Should Christians do volunteer work?" An overwhelming majority agree that it is important for Christians to volunteer. One participant gave good reasons to serve others, "To help lift up souls, to encourage Believers, to strengthen the weak, to build up the feeble, and reach out to the lost." Showing kindness to others when there is no repayment shows the love of Christ.

Out of the 162 responses, 157 answered "yes" to volunteer responsibilities. Believers wholeheartedly agree that volunteering time and services oftentimes provides opportunities to minister to others about Christ. One Believer said, "People don't care what we know until they know how much we care." Volunteering without payment shows others that we care. Christ freely gives forgiveness and salvation to those that believe on Him. Believers should freely give so that others can experience this gift.

Only two people did not agree that volunteer work should be done by Christians. One person felt that it depends on the gifts and talents the Lord has given each person. Some people are limited in ways they can help. For those who are uncertain about taking on volunteer responsibilities, it is best to pray and ask God to lead you to the right opportunity. ChristiaNet's CEO William Cooper says, "Volunteering to help others should be done without wanting to gain recognition from others." As all Believers know, there is nothing greater than being able to lead someone else to Christ through ministry and volunteering may provide that opportunity.

Three people who participated in this survey were unsure about Christians doing volunteer work. A respondent in this group felt that a person should feel led to do so, it should be an opportunity to share Christ with others, and should be taken very seriously. It is important to follow through with commitments when taking on volunteer responsibilities and to remember that serving others should be done with the attitude of serving Christ. One Believer who believes that Christians should volunteer said, "We are to be hospitable, do good works, visit the sick and visit those in prison, just like the Lord says."
