CVT Prepaid Solutions, a Leader in the Prepaid Calling Industry, Takes Part in Oprah's Challenge

Thanks to CVT Prepaid Solutions (CVT), children from abroad who come to the US to seek medical care can now call back home and hear the voices of their loved ones.

Great Neck, NY (PRWEB) November 7, 2006 -- Thanks to CVT Prepaid Solutions (CVT), children from abroad who come to the US to seek medical care can now call back home and hear the voices of their loved ones.

"At CVT, we believe in giving back to our community." says Athena Pappas, director of public relations and human resources at CVT.

The CVT initiative began with Oprah's Favorite Giveaway Ever, where popular talk-show host Oprah Winfrey distributed $1,000 debit cards to her audience members who were asked to donate them to a charitable cause. Felicia Calabrasi and her parents, Robert and Arline Kramer, of Roslyn, NY, decided to pool their three cards and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.

As a past supporter of the House, CVT was contacted by Calabrasi to purchase $1,000 worth of phone cards. Upon hearing of this, CVT decided to match the donation. Children who now come from abroad to the United States for medical treatment can phone home for comfort, love and support. Most of the children at the house are there with one parent while the other is back home taking care of the other siblings and working to pay the bills. "We believe that our phone cards allow the children to be tucked in bed each night by that distant parent," adds Pappas, "we are just happy that the Calabrasis and the Kramers gave us an opportunity to be part of this great effort."

In addition, CVT Prepaid, the Kramers and Calabrasis are sponsoring the Share A Night program, where they sponsor room and board for those who cannot afford the cost to stay at the house. These warm acts spurred Ronald McDonald board members to make further contributions of their own.

"Generosity often has a domino effect, and in this case, one good act set off many more," says Bob Stewart, vice president of business development at CVT. "We're thrilled to be able to work with the Ronald McDonald house and we'd like to see this little stream turn into a river that will create an ocean. CVT will continue its quest to serve society better in every way we can."

Both Pappas and Stewart attended a luncheon this past Saturday to honor Oprah's initiative and to thank everyone who supported and took part in this challenge. Oprah will have a follow-up show announcing some of her audience member's heart touching donations during this holiday season….stay tuned.
