Holiday Shoppers Gearing Up For Seasonal Shopping Well In Advance Of Cyber Monday
Year-Round Shoppers Rank Highest in SHOP.COM's Holiday Shopping Profiles
Monterey, CA (PRWEB) November 8, 2006 -- Last-minute holiday shopping may have become a thing of the past according to more than 2,400 savvy online shoppers who participated in a holiday shopping quiz created by SHOP.COM, the multi-merchant ecommerce marketplace with OneCart ™ convenience. Nearly 44 percent of Americans feel it's never too early to start shopping and, as a result, the "Always on the Lookout" holiday shopper – one who's likely to be found December 26 hunting for sales -- is currently leading the pack of holiday shopper profiles followed closely by the "One for You, One for Me" holiday shoppers -- the kind of shoppers who pick up extra gifts for themselves along the way. Only 6 percent of respondents report they resort to 11th-hour antics to complete their holiday shopping.
As retailers across the country gear up for holiday rush, the SHOP.COM quiz revealed that more than a third (36 percent of participants) start buying presents around the Thanksgiving holiday, but nearly a quarter of them say they would rather "Eat their arm off" than venture into a store on Black Friday -- the day following Thanksgiving. These wary shoppers can still start their shopping early -- on Cyber Monday, the official kick-off to the online holiday shopping season -- and enjoy the ease and convenience of holiday shopping while missing the lines and madness of the malls.
"All indicators point to holiday 2006 being the biggest season yet for online shopping -- Jupiter Research reported that consumers will spend an average of $274 with online retailers, up about $10 from last year," said Cori Tuck, director of merchant solutions at SHOP.COM. "Ninety percent of our survey respondents were women and as a busy working mom myself I appreciate the convenience and ease of shopping online. When you're responsible for your family's holiday traditions -- including buying gifts for at least a dozen or so people -- anything you can do ahead of time or at night while the kids are asleep gives you cheer."
With SHOP.COM's universal OneCart™, consumers can use one shopping cart and one account to buy gifts for everyone on their list (including a few special items for themselves) from hundreds of stores. The SHOP.COM marketplace offers gift ideas and products from name brand retailers and specialty stores in categories ranging from apparel, toys and home furnishings to computers, books, DVDs and consumer electronics. And if shoppers are not sure of their gift selections, they can use SHOP.COM's Save for Later feature that holds the selected items in their OneCart ™ for future purchase. Gift recipients can also help out by creating a SHOP.COM Wish List from their favorite retailers and sharing it with their friends and family.
Is it Really Better to Give than to Receive?
More than half of SHOP.COM respondents plan to buy gifts for 3-10 people while 40 percent have more than 10 people on their holiday lists. And they plan to spend significant money with 20 percent saying they will splurge on $75+ per gift and almost 50 percent saying they'll spend more than $35 per gift. But the SHOP.COM quiz also revealed that one of every five participants (21 percent) awaits the holiday shopping season with glee, reporting that "I do buy presents for others but I'm also likely to pick up a few things for ME."
