Protagonist Takes on Life of His Own on Debut Author's Website
Unique Approach to Promoting Mystery Novel
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) November 13, 2006 -- Jack Getze, debut mystery novelist whose novel Big Numbers (Hilliard & Harris) is due to hit the bookstores in February 2007, has launched a new Website (http://www.jackgetze.com).
This is no ordinary author Website. Advice for writers won't be found here. Visitors will, however, find a protagonist who has "come alive" and all but taken over Getze's site.
"Funny thing: As an author, I thought I'd created a fictional character, this Austin Carr guy. But in truth, the wisecracking stockbroker has taken on a life of his own. And despite his current circumstances, Austin says he's determined to spill his guts about the investment trade. I have cautioned against it, reminding Austin of the trouble he's already in. But no matter what I say, I can't keep Austin quiet. I guess he figures, at this point, what does he have to lose? After all, the man is tied to a Giant Bluefin tuna!" says Getze.
Three weeks ago, Getze's character lived in a truck-mounted camper. Behind in alimony and child-support payments, stockbroker Austin Carr was desperate to earn his children back and escape the Jersey Shore's third-rate stock trade. But life has gotten worse. Now he's about to be murdered, tied to a live, six-hundred-pound tuna.
But before he "swims with the fishes," Carr is bent on revealing a few dirty little secrets.
BIG NUMBERS, Getze's first published novel is based on his experiences as a (bad) retail broker, (worst) sales manager, and (worst ever) financial executive. Though no longer licensed (thank heaven) to sell securities, Getze still helps manage money for a select (dwindling) number of friends and family members.
But all of Getze's experiences couldn't prepare him for Austin Carr.
"Austin's insisting on having his own column. He wants to divulge shocking stock market secrets. And he isn't stopping there. Oh, no. Austin also wants to give me an exclusive audio interview where he will hold nothing back," says Getze.
It's already started. Getze has received Carr's first inside tip. Against Getze's better judgment he has decided to print it.

And remember, Getze is just the messenger. Don't go after him. He likes to eat tuna, not get towed by them.
