22 Countries Trial Exosex This Year, a 50% Increase on Area Treated in 2005
Environmentally friendly pest control technology designed to target pests in agriculture, horticulture, amenity and stored products gains global momentum.
(PRWEB) November 16, 2006 -- Exosect, a leading provider of environmentally conscious insect pest control solutions announces a 50% increase in trial area across the globe for its mating disruption product family, Exosex. Throughout 2006, Exosect has implemented over 60 trials in 22 countries and has worked with 15 major companies including, Makhteshim, Arysta and Sumitomo Chemical, covering more than 400 hectares.
Trials have been established to test the efficacy of the system prior to market penetration. The Exosex solution has been developed to control the populations of Codling Moth, Grape Berry Moth, Oriental Fruit Moth, Tobacco Moth and several other species of major commercial importance. By changing the pheromone present in the system each of these pests can be targeted specifically, reducing blanket crop spraying which can adversely effect beneficial insects and equally importantly, can lead to excess pesticide residues on the crop.
"We have seen a sharp rise in interest in our environmentally friendly product this year. Increasing consumer pressure to reduce the level of pesticides used on food products and bans on chemicals used for in-door fumigation have all contributed towards this increase. Our work with the world's top crop protection companies aims to produce qualitative data that supports the effectiveness of our product on various pests in different climates and in varying market opportunities." Comments Managing Director of Exosect, Martin Brown.
Outside Europe, Exosect are also working in collaboration with crop protection companies in Israel, Korea, America, Argentina, Australia, Chile, India, New Zealand and South Africa, to develop the Exosex system on Codling Moth, Oriental Fruit Moth and Yellow Stem Borer.
"With recent internal organizational growth and by relocating to new premises we now have the capacity and human resource to continue to extend our development programmes in 2007." Concludes Brown.
