Musician Gives Guided Tour of Planet, Flute by Flute

"Flutes of the World: A Celebration of Humanity" is a new program offered to colleges and universities in 2007. Werner John, performer on ethnic flutes, illustrates the story of human migration outward from Africa and around the world with performance on these flutes and more: Fulani, Ney, Bansuri, Dizi, Shakuhachi, Pan flute, Gemshorn, Recorder, Celtic flute, Native American flutes, Ocarinas. The program blends music, multiculturalism and diversity issues, and human geography.

all-Hadley, MA (Billboard Publicity Wire/PRWeb) November 15, 2006 -- "Flutes of the World: A Celebration of Humanity" will be available to colleges and universities nationwide beginning February 2007. In this narrated performance, musician Werner John takes the audience on a tour of the planet, flute by flute. Werner's presentation of the "universal human instrument" touches on how each flute speaks for its culture, and how a simple vibrating air vessel disseminated into so many variations reflects the history, the ingenuity, and ultimately the unity of the human family.

Stories were often central in human cultural development. Werner John feels that the modern "origin story" of humanity's migration around the world from Africa needs to be told. The simplicity of this big picture can lead to insights often overlooked by the scientific disciplines that fill in the details. Through this story the relative recentness and triviality of the human distinctions we love to accentuate can become more obvious. And one human breath through the flutes of many cultures suggests the commonality of human experience.

For those near Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley, Werner John will be giving concerts on November 18 and 19, 2006 entitled "Music of Deep Thanksgiving." These performances will feature the "Flutes of the World" migration story culminating on the Atlantic coast, contact point for humanity's east and west migrations. Here Mr. John has written new music for Thanksgiving, a holiday which at its core celebrates an all-too-rare event: people of the widest cultural differences coming together to give thanks for life on Earth.
