Smart Dating UK is involved in a unique new speed dating venture by UK churches designed to seduce would be church goers in an attempt to increase congregation sizes.
Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (PRWEB) November 17, 2006 -- Developed by an Anglican Bishop and known as Soul Connexion, the first ever UK speed dating event showcasing vicars took place at the De Vere Hotel in Swindon, Wiltshire, on Friday 20 October 2006.
The Church of England offers this 'speed dating' service to allow lapsed worshippers to connect with the church of their dreams. The event allowed competing clergymen from a range of denominations including Anglican, Methodist and Baptist just five minutes to promote their particular brand of Christianity and place of worship before participants moved on to the next persuasive religious rep.

The Rev Lee Rayfield, Bishop of Swindon, who pioneered the concept, said: "A very large number of people within this age-group are moving into Swindon, but only a small minority are finding their way to local churches. Our aim is reach people who would like to belong to a church but who have not yet managed to find the right one.
"This is Swindon's answer to declining church congregations. We believe that there are lots of people in the town who once went to church, but who, for a variety of reasons, now no longer attend. Relationships do break down and this event will give people a chance to meet a number of different churches that might offer more of what they are looking for.
"Sometimes in relationships we need encouragement to make the first move and we have identified speed dating as a useful contemporary way of connecting people, especially those who are between 25 and 40."
30 participants discussed vision and values, passions and theology; those successfully connected took away an invitation to attend their church of choice to test whether a mutually beneficial relationship might develop.
The Bishop hoped the speed dating event would give people "a chance to see if there is any chemistry between them and a church".
