NORTH BRIDGTON, ME (PRWEB) November 18, 2006 -- Bridgton Academy is pleased to announce a $100,000 dollar pledge to its Third Century Fund Capital Campaign made by Jack Kelleher '68 of Wenham, Massachusetts. Kelleher, President of Kelleher Construction Company of Beverly, Massachusetts, is not only an Academy graduate, but a former trustee as well. The Kelleher family has chosen to name the main entryway of the Humanities Center with their gift in support of the Academy's Third Century Fund campaign.
Bridgton Academy recently dedicated its new 17,000 square-foot Humanities Center, an important step for the school's three and a half million dollar Third Century Fund campaign. In 2005, Kelleher Construction Company was chosen to manage the construction of the Humanities Center, overseeing one of the Academy's largest building efforts in recent history. With this building dedication, the Academy officially kicked off the public phase of this fundraising effort. To date, Bridgton Academy has raised two and a half million dollars, seventy-one percent of its overall goal. The Third Century Fund Campaign began in the summer of 2004 by the Board of Trustees with the mission of improving campus facilities, creating a new Humanities Center, and increasing the Academy's modest endowment which provides scholarships for students and funds for professional development for the faculty. The Kelleher pledge enables the Academy to move one step closer to meeting its goal, and reinforces the mission and capabilities of the school.
Jack Kelleher served on Bridgton Academy's Board of Trustees for many years. First elected in 1990, he served as board president from 1995-1999. In 2000, he was reappointed to the Board and served until May of 2005, when his final term expired. Upon his retirement, Mr. Kelleher received the Ray T. McDonald Award, an award that recognizes the outstanding service of deserving trustees.
Mr. Kelleher chose to name the new entryway in memory of his uncle, Maurice F. Ahearn, Jr., who graduated from Bridgton Academy in 1938. A retired insurance executive, community leader, and colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, Mr. Ahearn was also a long time Academy trustee, serving on the Board from 1987-1997. Mr. Kelleher attended the Humanities Center dedication in September with his daughter, Cailin Kelleher DeBiase, Director of Business Development for Kelleher Construction Company, and Miles Gattenby, Vice President of Pre-Construction Services.
"Bridgton Academy is grateful for Jack's leadership both as an alumnus and as a board member," said Headmaster David N. Hursty. "His loyalty and dedication to Bridgton Academy are invaluable, as demonstrated by his fifteen years of service on the Board of Trustees, and we greatly appreciate his commitment to our strategic plan and philanthropic needs. Through the success of The Third Century Fund, Bridgton Academy will be an even stronger institution dedicated to transforming the lives of young men."
