Blacksburg, VA (PRWEB) November 28, 2006 -- Digital Bazaar, innovators in the field of digital file distribution technology, announced today that they have launched version 2.0 of their groundbreaking secure transaction network. The service, called Bitmunk, employs a legal peer-to-peer based distribution mechanism which ensures that artists, distributors and fans get paid for trading music over the network. The service allows anybody with an Internet connection to use the Bitmunk software to re-sell music they have in their collection. Every customer's computer functions as an online retail music store allowing a customer to receive a portion of each sale which can then be used to purchase more music or be withdrawn directly into a bank account.
"This is only the beginning - we plan on providing many more tools to help people integrate our sales software into their blogs, RSS news feeds, podcasts, video blogs and personal websites. Our software ensures that advertising is not the only source of revenue available to bloggers, entertainment portals and news services - we are providing a sales vehicle that anybody can integrate into their website," said Manu Sporny, CEO of Digital Bazaar. The Bitmunk software does not force customers to wrap their music in restrictive Digital Rights Management technology. Instead, Bitmunk employs several advanced watermarking techniques that curb piracy while ensuring a very pro-customer stance on protecting and re-distributing music.
"Customers that purchase DRM-free content from Bitmunk will never have to worry about which devices will let them play their music. They have the freedom to play their music on any device at any time - something that cannot be said of music purchased from DRM-laden services," added Sporny.
The Bitmunk Personal Edition 2.0 software is available for free via the Bitmunk website:

The service's offering has grown from a small selection of 2,900 songs two years ago to more than 520,000 songs that are available today. "Most of the content has been provided by CD Baby, the world's largest independent online record store - they have been incredibly forward thinking when it came to working with us. They are blazing the trail on licensing digital content the right way," said Michael Johnson, COO of Digital Bazaar.
Since the launch two years ago, over 30,000 new artists have joined Bitmunk. The service is taking aim at the major labels next and will be working with larger record companies to provide more mainstream content to their customers.
