Thanksgiving Brings Out Thankfulness for Family, But Also Stress, New Survey Reveals

People say they're most thankful for family at Thanksgiving, yet they also say family is what causes them the most stress at the holiday, according to a new survey conducted by morefocus, an online research organization.

CARLSBAD, Calif., (PRWEB) November 21, 2006 -- In an apparent case of "can't live with them, can't live without them," people say they're most thankful for family at Thanksgiving, yet they also say family is what causes them the most stress at the holiday, according to a new survey conducted by morefocus, an online research organization.

Half of the almost 500 people surveyed said what they're most thankful for at Thanksgiving is family, and 41 percent said seeing loved ones is what they like most about the holiday. However, 32 percent of people who said Thanksgiving causes them stress named family as the source of that stress.

"Thanksgiving can be a mixed bag for a lot of people," said Dr. Regan Carey, morefocus Research Director. "Certainly, they're very appreciative of their family. However, it's not uncommon for some family members to get along better than others, and when you put them all in the same room for a day, it can often cause a bit of stress."

In fact, 14 percent of people surveyed reported that family squabbles are part of a typical Thanksgiving for them.

Thankfully, family squabbling is not all that takes place at Thanksgiving. A typical Thanksgiving includes eating too much for 70 percent of those surveyed, and 32 percent follow that with some napping. Television factors into the day as well, with 29 percent typically watching football, and almost as many, 27 percent, watching the Macy's parade.

The morefocus survey was commissioned by the publication Thanksgiving-Traditions.com.

The wide-ranging survey also covered how people feel about Thanksgiving traditions, their Thanksgiving travel plans, and their thoughts about how Christmas shopping affects Thanksgiving. Further information and summary results of the survey are available on request from morefocus.
