Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) November 22, 2006
The ShowStream Battle of the Bands will feature performances by independent bands from around the World, broadcast live on ShowStream.net. These bands hail from 11 different countries, including the UK, Denmark, Norway, Columbia and Australia. Bands from 18 different states in the US are entered as well. The bands, over 50 of them, will be competing for a $700 (USD) cash grand prize and over $3500 (USD) in free service. The event is free for both bands and music fans.
Never before have bands been able to compete in live shows no matter where they are. No travel expenses, no lugging equipment, no setups and takedowns. The band that plays before them may be in a different country, the band that plays after them may be performing next door.
Round 1 of ShowStream's live Battle of the Bands is December 1st, 2006 at 6:30 PM PST (GMT-8). It will include 8 simultaneous cross-genre shows ranging from rock to folk. Listeners will be treated to hip-hop, blues and jazz as well. The shows will last about an hour with each band performing 2 songs. Sixteen bands will qualify for the next round on December 9th and a final round on December 16th will decide the winner.
Battle of the Bands that are "online only" typically feature content submitted by the bands that music fans can vote on. This arrangement lead to bands competing for clicks, in a contest of marketing savvy instead of musical merit. ShowStream aims to change this, creating the first ever Battle of the Bands which is online and therefore open to any band, anywhere, but features live shows. This will give even small, startup, or garage bands an even chance with bands that are better established. Bands that have signed with any of the major record labels are not eligible for this competition.
Anyone who has access to the Internet can attend the first ShowStream Battle of the Bands. ShowStream's Battle of the Bands will allow listeners to connect from a click of a link from http://www.showstream.net - where currently a list of entered bands is available. During the show listeners will be able to chat about each band. In order to help the band of their choice take first place, they must be there for the entire length of the show.
This is the first in a series of quarterly competitions hosted by ShowStream. We encourage anyone who loves music to come and listen to this historical event.
About ShowStream
ShowStream, started in 2005, gives music fans the ability to hear a wide range of music broadcast live online, from bands around the world. For bands, it provides an easy to use, point-and-click hosted solution for broadcasting live music. Most bands have static content in the form of MP3s and video available on the Internet, but giving their Internet fans the ability to hear their shows live is rare. With broadband penetration increasing at a rapid pace, broadcasting live music is now a great opportunity for bands to differentiate themselves from the hordes of other music groups one can find online. Any band can perform up to 5 shows a month on ShowStream.
