Gripping True Story of a Pioneering Military Hero
Journey to Command: The Naval Career of Captain J. C. Smith by Carol Smith unfolds the career of the first commanding officer of Top Gun
San Angelo, Texas (PRWEB) November 24, 2006 -- Navy wife and author Carol Smith tells her husband's story from his own perspective, in the thrilling Journey to Command: The Naval Career of Captain J. C. Smith. An ordinary man who became a living legend, Captain Smith's incredible tale spans over 20 years.
Most people might think of Tom Cruise when they hear Top Gun, but the name they should know is Captain John C. Smith, the husband of the author and the voice of her gripping new book. Using official records, letters and reminiscences of those who knew him, Carol Smith's book tells about her husband's rise to fame, capturing the flavor of the times and the excitement of a unique military career.
In clear, conversational prose, Smith relates her husband's triumphs of flying jet planes and winning the Silver Star for the first MIG kill of the Vietnam War. One of the first two officers assigned to design and build the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun), Captain Smith's unique abilities helped lift restrictions, and he became the first flight officer awarded command at sea of a Navy fighter squadron.
Journey to Command explores life in the Navy--and out--with you-are-there verve and excitement. A beautifully told saga of a military hero who is destined for the history books, it's also a poignant story of a loving family man.
