New Self Publishing Division Helps Authors Effectively Compete in Literary Marketplace

The long-standing bias against self-publishing has crumbled over the last few years. Today, self-published works are given same status as traditionally published works by most book reviewers. Books are judged on their content and appeal, not their corporate ownership. Epigraph Publishing Service provides access and services to help self publishing authors more effectively compete.

Rhinebeck, NY (PRWEB) November 30, 2006 -- MONKFISH BOOK PUBLISHING COMPANY is pleased to announce the opening of Epigraph Publishing Service devoted to helping self publishing authors more effectively compete in the literary marketplace. Epigraph offers publishing services such as editing and book design, and, to select authors, the opportunity to be published under the new Epigraph imprint. These books will be nationally distributed to bookstores, libraries and wholesalers. Using traditional publishing processes -- such as distribution -- Epigraph will give self published authors a competitive edge.

The self publishing industry was re-invented 10 years ago with a new printing technology called print-on-demand or POD. POD allows books to be digitally stored and printed one at a time as they are ordered, thus lowering the costs of printing. Self published works and companies have proliferated since. Several best selling authors including Steven King, Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump turned to self-publishing as a way to maintain control of their creative and marketing rights, and to enhance profitability. The long-standing bias against self-publishing has crumbled over the last few years. Today, self-published works are given same status as traditionally published works by most book reviewers. Books are judged on their content and appeal, not their corporate ownership.

Monkfish Book Publishing Company is a four-year-old independent press in Rhinebeck, NY, that traditionally publishes books combining spiritual and literary merit. Monkfish books are distributed to the trade by Consortium Book Sales and Distribution. Monkfish is best known for publishing The Passion of Mary Magdalen: A Novel by Elizabeth Cunningham and Ginny Good by Gerard Jones, as well as world renowned authors Colin Wilson, Rupert Sheldrake and HG Wells.

Epigraph will be working with publishing industry veterans including Lottchen Shivers, Kenneth Wapner, David Stanford and Cait Johnson. The Epigraph trade imprint will be the first of its kind to appear in its distributor's catalog. Epigraph submissions are open to works in any genre.
