Kerry Rhodes Gains Notoriety On The Field By Playing All Pro Defense For The NY Jets

One Of The NFL's Top Safeties Blitzes Quarterbacks In His Second Season

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 29, 2006 -- New York Jets safety Kerry Rhodes is quietly becoming one of the NFL's defensive players to watch being one of the top safeties in the NFL right now. Kerry's knack for reading offensive plays from opposing quarterbacks has made him a standout defensive player. In Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, Rhodes intercepted a key pass by Quarterback David Carr in the second half. "You have to see where he (Rhodes) is, based on your formation," said the Texans' David Carr. "Whether he's trying to come down to play man coverage or whether he's coming down to a location where there is no one to cover---then he has a chance where he can come get you." In the end, the Jets improved their record and defeated the Texans 26-11 in Week 12.

Kerry was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 3 after his amazing play against J.P. Losman, Quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. In Week 4, Colts Quarterback Peyton Manning shouted, "There's Kerry!" to his linemen. "Block Kerry!" During the NY Jets game against the Detroit Lions, Rhodes intercepted an important pass by Quarterback Jon Kitna, yet another big defensive play.

So far, Kerry has 3 interceptions, 4 sacks, 9 defending passes and 3 forced fumbles this season. At press time after this past Sunday's game, Mangini said, "The fact that we had no turnovers and stopped two...all of these things working together...this was one of the best collective team efforts." He continued "In the last three weeks it's gotten a little bit better." "Just out of the base defense effectively stopping the run---something that we've been working on for a long time---that to me was a significant sign of progress. I was really pleased with that." The Jets are 6-5 after the win against the Texans. Now, every game counts and Kerry has been starting in every game this season. This win sets the stage for the team to go after the NFL Playoff Hunt in the AFC East.

Kerry Rhodes has a keen ability for making great defensive plays, forcing fumbles, keeping an eye on the ball and charging quarterbacks. Rhodes, the 2005 fourth-round draft pick out of Louisville, is turning into one of the team's most valuable players. Make sure to check NY Jets' season schedule to catch the Rhodes' blitz in action! Make sure to get that official Rhodes #25 Jets jersey now.
