Vocada Integrates Veriphy with Dictaphone PowerScribe from Nuance, Creates Unified Interface for Communication and Reporting

Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, and Vocada, Inc., the market-leader in technology-based solutions for critical test result management (CTRM), this week announced an agreement to integrate their products, creating a simplified user interface for radiologists and pathologists to quickly and accurately communicate critical patient findings and report test results. Using Vocada's Veriphy system with Dictaphone® PowerScribe® from Nuance eliminates delays and inaccuracies in the communication of critical results, improving patient safety and streamlining reporting.

Chicago (PRWEB) December 1, 2006 -- Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, and Vocada, the market-leader in technology-based solutions for critical test result management (CTRM), this week announced an agreement to integrate their products, creating a simplified user interface for radiologists and pathologists to quickly and accurately communicate critical patient findings and report test results. Using Vocada's Veriphy system with Dictaphone® PowerScribe® from Nuance eliminates delays and inaccuracies in the communication of critical results, improving patient safety and streamlining reporting.

As a result of the agreement, Vocada's Veriphy will become a component in the Dictaphone PowerScribe dashboard and the two systems will share the same physician directories and database. Using the Veriphy system with Dictaphone PowerScribe, a reporting clinician creates a voice message directly within PowerScribe which is then automatically passed to the Veriphy system. Instant notifications are then sent to the ordering clinician via pager, cell phone, fax, and e-mail. This automated process saves valuable time and ultimately improves patient safety by ensuring that critical test results are delivered quickly and accurately.

"The seamless integration between Veriphy and PowerScribe will provide radiologists and clinical pathologists with a single, user-friendly interface for both communicating critical patient findings and for reporting test results," said Peter White, co-founder and CEO of Vocada.

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the National Institute of Medicine have identified delays in the communication of critical test results as a threat to patient safety. CTRM is a technology-based strategy that ensures the fail-safe, prompt, and verified communication of critical test results from a reporting clinician to the responsible ordering clinician in time to benefit the patient.

Noting that the documentation and verification of critical test results is vitally important, Dr. Terry Matalon chairman of Radiology at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, said the robust integration with PowerScribe will encourage physicians to use Veriphy.

"This integration will be an immense aid to PowerScribe users, and ultimately our patients will be the beneficiaries," Dr. Matalon said.

"The integration between Veriphy and PowerScribe is a natural fit, and underscores the broad adoption of speech technologies to increase productivity and improve patient care and safety," said Peter Durlach, senior vice president, marketing and product strategy, Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions, Nuance. "Radiology and Pathology professionals will benefit from having a unified interface to today's leading CTRM and speech recognition solutions to streamline how they communicate and report critical information."

Proven with more than 900 customers worldwide, Dictaphone PowerScribe from Nuance saves health care organizations thousands of dollars per doctor each year in reduced or eliminated manual transcription costs. Through the combination of highly accurate speech recognition software and powerful physician self-editing tools, PowerScribe dramatically reduces report turnaround time in even the most demanding medical environments. By automating the clinical documentation process through its Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions, Nuance aims to eliminate the high cost and long turnaround time associated with the manual transcription of patient notes, currently a $10 billion industry in North America alone.
