Power to the People: eBags.Com Celebrates Its Millionth Customer Review

Award-winning site allows customers to weigh in.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 1, 2006 -- www.eBags.com celebrated its one millionth customer review November 30, 2006. The online retailer was one of the first companies to incorporate Web 2.0 into its shopping experience, introducing the feature soon after the site’s launch in 1999.

“eBags was always an innovator and not surprisingly one of the first sites to embrace and encourage shopper participation. Now, the idea seems obvious; but, in 1999, user generated content was a radical concept,” states Lauren Freedman, president of the e-tailing group. “eBags noticed early that customer reviews led to a better shopping experience, and testimonials quickly became a logical extension of eBags’ emphasis on the customer experience.”

After a purchase, customers are invited to review their product through an e-mail request. Products can be rated on a scale from one to ten on five criteria: overall, appearance, durability, organization, and price/value. Furthermore, customers are invited to add free-form comments, which comprise the testimonials. By filling out additional information, such as frequency of use, generally used for, occupation, and gender fields, other shoppers can more easily assess the bag’s relevance to their own purchase. Once a review has been posted, site visitors can rate the helpfulness of each review.

Initially, the customer reviews on www.eBags.com were comprised of little more than a comments box. “We’ve adapted our ratings and testimonials system to reflect the information that people are looking for when buying a bag, but that may not be a part of the product’s typical specs,” states Jon Nordmark, CEO of eBags.com. “It’s wonderful how customer’s comments add that extra information a visitor needs in deciding which bag is best for them. Our one millionth review is really a testament to the fact that customers want their voice to be heard.”
