IP Cores, Inc., setting the benchmark for security IP cores, today announced a family of silicon IP cores supporting new draft of the P1619 disk drive encryption standard and shipped cores to customer. The new XEX3 cores enable System on Chip (SoC) vendors to build compact cryptographic processors that support the AES/XEX cryptographic algorithm.
"The IEEE P1619 standardization group has recently decided to drop the LRW mode of the AES cipher and adopt the new XEX mode in its new draft. Within few days from the modification of the draft by the SISWG, we started shipping new XEX-based cores to our customers. New XEX3 IP cores enable System on Chip (SoC) vendors to select the smallest AES-XEX core of the family that satisfies the clock / throughput requirements," said Dmitri Varsanofiev, CTO of IP Cores. High-speed Encryption Protects Data in Storage and inside the Network
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is recently used to provide data security on a hard drive. Addressing the market demand for integrated high-speed AES crypto solution, IP Cores' XEX3 supports the AES/XEX modes in a family of cores. XEX3 cores support 128-bit and 256-bit keys for design flexibility. XEX3 is designed for throughput of up to 128 Mbits per MHz, and is easily parallelizable to achieve even higher throughputs.
XEX3 configurations support AES-XEX encryption and decryption throughput up to 70 Gbps in a single core using 130 and 90 nm processes. Gate count for a fully self-contained XEX3 starts at 30K gates.
