Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) December 1, 2006
With the help of knowledge management solutions provider Buan Consulting, Inc. (Buan), the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) Full-Text Search System is now greatly enhanced. Buan's services mean that EDGAR's more than one million company filings, available on the Commission's public website, are easier to search through than ever for stockholders, financial analysts and all members of the public investor community.
Each year, 15 to 18 million pages of filings are submitted to the SEC by more than 15,000 public companies and other filers via the EDGAR system. Anyone can access and download this information for free, but its sheer volume and breadth of data type can make it difficult for the SEC to manage. Now, the enhanced EDGAR full-text search allows users to enter a keyword or conceptual search query and retrieve a list of related filings. Searchers may also make use of Boolean operators and wildcard capabilities.
SEC Chairman Christopher Cox said, "When investors and analysts are looking for information about a company or fund, they'll no longer be required to laboriously wade through each individual filing separately to get what they want. Instead, they can now access millions of pages in dozens or even hundreds of company filings all at once. The availability of this powerful new search capability is a milestone in our interactive data initiative."
Dan Buan, CEO of Buan Consulting, said, "We are very proud to have the opportunity to assist the SEC in its mission of protecting investors and maintaining market integrity. We look forward to continuing our work with the SEC to further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of EDGAR's capabilities and to increase its value to citizens."
The EDGAR full-text search tool is available on the SEC website at http://searchhttp://www.sec.gov/EDGARFSClient/jsp/EDGAR_MainAccess.jsp. The Commission plans further enhancements based on user feedback. Requests, comments and suggestions should be sent to TextSearch@SEC.gov.
Buan Consulting's other federal government customers include the Department of Homeland Security, the National Park Service, and the Social Security Administration.
