Solution Utilizes QoS to Deliver High-Quality Online Gaming Sessions Across Any Network or Device, Empowering the Creation of Global Gaming Communities

Targeting broadband service providers by allowing rapid creation of video gaming communities, the solution applies signaling for QoS while negotiating in real-time the necessary bandwidth to ensure high-quality sessions over legacy applications such as PC games. The two main components enabling the IMS-based solution are CableMatrix's XAM™ (eXtensible Application Manager) and Smart Agent embedded software modules.

The XAM, an intelligent multimedia session controller, enables the dynamic allocation and management of QoS at the client level to ensure optimal use of network resources. Smart Agents optimize the performance of existing applications such as multiplayer gaming by requesting the appropriate levels of bandwidth, latency, and jitter for each session. The Smart Agents monitor individual user applications for bandwidth requirements and signal for QoS when appropriate. The XAM authenticates and authorizes the requests according to the service provider's policy settings, and forwards them to the CableMatrix ODSP™ policy server for QoS provisioning.
