We're working on an online design tool that will allow people to create their own products using the web site's inventory of designs and apparel.

The Tanglewood Collection web site launched with about 80,000 products a month ago. It now has over 100,000 brand name apparel products with embroidered nature and wildlife designs listed for sale online.
We all know someone that loves wolves and eagles, or dolphins and whales, or even butterflies and dragonflies. What makes the site great is that you also find a hedgehog sweatshirt or a puffin polo, even a maculosus angelfish jacket.
The apparel products produced are not typical. Each order is embroidered by skilled craftspeople in Colorado - where the company is based. Instead of a large building housing a slew of machines operated by poorly paid employees, Custom Avenue sources it's production to independent contractors. Partners that are independent business people.
The quality product customers receive is usually a delight. The web site does not do the product justice. In this case, technology lets us down. It can not represent the fine craftsmanship of each piece produced. It can not convey the quality behind the image.
Screen printed t-shirts are popular but most people don't realize that for a little bit more they can get a quality embroidered polo shirt. The additional cost is minimal when considering the increase in value. A fine embroidered polo shirt is a very nice gift for under $30.
Although the Tanglewood web site is basically a retail site, it will soon evolve to include custom product development that can be done online by the client. "We're working on an online design tool that will allow people to create their own products using the web site's inventory of designs and apparel." explains Jack McDaniel, President of Custom Avenue, the company that created the web site TanglewoodCollection.com.
Jack adds "Before we began selling online most of our production was custom. Most people would order a design with a few lines of text. Now that we are selling online, we are selling the design alone." Later, Jack ponders … "Maybe people are getting tired of maximum commercialism. It's nice to see someone buy a Dri Duck Jacket with a small antelope embroidered on it. No text, just the solitary antelope. It's a really nice product".
