NYIT Appoints New Provost and Chief Administrative Officer for Ellis College of NYIT

New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has announced the appointment of David Harpool, Ph.D., to provost and chief administrative officer for Ellis College of NYIT, NYIT's online college for working adults. In his new role, Harpool will oversee the operations and academic programs of Ellis College of NYIT, including curriculum development, teaching initiatives and the assurance of superior academic quality.

In his new role, Harpool will oversee the operations and academic programs of Ellis College of NYIT, including curriculum development, teaching initiatives and the assurance of superior academic quality.

"Ellis College of NYIT is truly one of the great innovators in online education," says Harpool. "The curriculum, which is aligned with NYIT's 21st-century education model, is designed to provide a stimulating academic environment for career-oriented adults looking to advance their education and further their careers. Harpool joins Ellis College of NYIT from Kaplan University in Chicago, Ill., where he served as provost and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the university's online learning division. Prior to that, he was president of Kendall College in Chicago and Argosy University of Chicago. A recognized expert in the field of higher-education, Harpool authored Survivor College: Best Practices for Traditional and For-Profit Colleges, has written several articles for numerous journals and newspapers, and has been cited or appeared in more than 100 media sources. He also serves as the peer-consultant for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the regional accrediting body for that area of the United States, which includes Chicago.

Harpool, of Evanston, Ill., earned a Doctor of Philosophy in education from Saint Louis University, a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Columbia, School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science in education from Southwest Missouri State University.
