Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine Receives Telework Coalition's 2006 Hall of Fame Award

Award recognizes Kaine's exemplary support and promotion of Telework, for establishing the Virginia Office of Telework Promotion and Broadband Assistance

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 8, 2006 -- The Telework Coalition (TelCoa), based in Washington, DC, and dedicated to promoting the benefits and wider use of telework and telecommuting, presented its 2006 Hall of Fame Award for Supporting Telework on the State Level to Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine at a landmark ceremony at the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) in Herndon, Va. At the event, the Governor and executives from 32 technology companies signed a pledge to "expand or implement telework within our organizations and to encourage our colleagues in other organizations, private and public, to implement or expand telework."

This award was one of twelve Hall of Fame Awards announced at the Call Center 2.0 Conference in San Diego, CA, where TelCoa led eight educational sessions on the benefits of Work @Home™ agents in call centers.

Chuck Wilsker, President and CEO of TelCoa commented, "We anticipate that the leadership of Governor Kaine will cause other States to follow his example. The technologies are in place at affordable prices to enable organizations of all types to use telework to establish work locations other than at the traditional office and provide additional employment opportunities for rural, older, and disabled workers. There are no longer either rational excuses or acceptable strategies of avoidance when it comes to developing and implementing telework and telecommuting programs."

Governor Kaine added, "I was honored to receive the Telework Coalition's 2006 Hall of Fame Award and I hope that other states will follow Virginia's lead to promote and enable telework, so that it becomes standard practice in the work place. Telework is a win for all -- employers win, employees win, society wins, and the environment wins."

John Edwards, Chairman of TelCoa observed, "During these difficult times, with the increased risk from man-made and natural disruptions to our way of life and the economy, we have to have a ubiquitous telework capability to build more resiliency into the fabric of society, government and our economic activities. Having anything less is irresponsible and bad governance."

The Telework Coalition (www.TelCoa.org), headquartered in Washington, DC, promotes, encourages and enables virtual, mobile and distributed work through research, education, technology and legislation by focusing the efforts of companies, governments at all levels, non-profits and individuals around this common interest.
