Domestic Violence Cases Spike During the Holidays

LegalMatch Notes a Disturbing Trend: Domestic Violence Legal Cases Rise Over the Holidays

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 8, 2006 -- LegalMatch (www.LegalMatch.com), the nation's leading online legal matching company, today announced that it has uncovered a disturbing trend: an increase in domestic violence cases presented to the LegalMatch service the week immediately following Thanksgiving. LegalMatch, a company that facilitates the automated matching of clients with lawyers says that this year, the number of domestic violence cases increased 29% the week after Thanksgiving, compared to the preceding week. LegalMatch researched three years of back data regarding this apparent phenomenon and found an average 30% jump in domestic violence cases for the week after Thanksgiving.

Tens of thousands of cases are anonymously presented monthly on LegalMatch.com in expectancy of being matched to a well-qualified lawyer. Online legal matching uses automated online technologies that match specific needs entered by a person seeking a lawyer to lawyers whose practices focus on those areas -- matching geographically, and based on a lawyer's areas of practice and level of expertise. While LegalMatch always keeps the cases anonymous, they do track the types of cases being presented, and therefore, the types of lawyers being sought. It was from this case-type tracking that LegalMatch began to see this trend emerge over the last four years.

"We know that the holidays can add stress to people's lives but this is no excuse for domestic violence in any way," says Ken LaMance, Attorney and Director of Client Relations for LegalMatch. "Finding an attorney who has experience with domestic violence is often a victim's first step to permanently removing themselves from the unsafe situation, and we are proud to continue to help so many people find a way out," continues LaMance. "LegalMatch's service is available online twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week, so," LaMance says, "it's always there for anyone who needs it."
