Palo Alto, Calif. (PRWEB) December 9, 2006
imeem, inc., the leading next-generation online community for social media, and LIVE 105, the San Francisco Bay Area's top alternative rock station, are excited to announce Cold-Hot-Crash as the 2006 LIVE 105 Local Band Contest winner. Cold-Hot-Crash will open for The Killers, Modest Mouse, The Raconteurs, The Shins and Silversun Pickups at the sold out Not So Silent Night 2006 this Friday, December 8th at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
This year's local band contest winner, Cold-Hot-Crash, was selected by Aaron Axelsen, imeem users, and a panel of music industry veterans in the music industry. The exciting contest started with the LIVE 105's Music Industry Panel at the Ex'pression College for Digital Arts in Emeryville, where local bands registered on the LIVE 105 imeem community site, and submitted their demo CD. With hundreds of entries for the contest, LIVE 105's Aaron Axelsen, well known nationwide for breaking new bands and for his popular show, Soundcheck, narrowed down the field to his top 25 bands.
From Axelsen's top 25 choices, LIVE 105 listeners and imeem users hopped on the LIVE 105 imeem community site to listen, comment, and vote on each competing song, as well as discover all the local bay area talent through photos, videos, and blog postings. Through user votes on imeem, the top 5 bands were determined, and performed an entertaining battle of the bands at Café du Nord. Thriving Ivory, Cold-Hot-Crash, LoveLikeFire, Panda, and the Morning Benders, all gave great performances, with Cold-Hot-Crash rising to win the coveted opening gig at NSSN 2006, as well as 8 hours of studio time and CD artwork design through Ex'pression College for Digital Arts.
"The LIVE 105 local band contest has been an awesome experience, with bands sharing photos, playlists, music, video, and more on their customized profiles, and fans joining in the fun through voting, comments, rating and tagging," said Steve Jang, vice president of marketing and business development, imeem. "LIVE 105 has always been a pivotal influence in the local music scene, and we're happy to partner with them to bring our community of indie content creators, music artists, and fans together for our partner, LIVE 105."
"Through this successful collaboration between LIVE 105 and imeem, we were able to interact directly with our listeners to give an up-and-coming band, Cold-Hot-Crash, the opportunity to open at Not So Silent Night, as well as propel 24 lucky bands into the spotlight," said Aaron Axelsen, Music Director, LIVE 105. "LIVE 105's commitment to discovering local talent, and imeem's great online community for indie artists and fans has been a perfect fit, and we're looking forward to our next project together."
