Fishing Pier World Record Has No Peer

Bill Morris, Kim Jones and Steve Wilson are finally recognized for setting the world record for fishing 23 piers in 48 hours. With the closing of so many piers over the last decade this is a record that is likely not to be broken.

Fort Mill, South Carolina (PRWEB) December 12, 2006 -- On August 5-7th in 1990, the record for fishing the most ocean piers in a 48 hour period of time was established by Bill Morris, Kim Jones and Steve "Flash" Wilson. Anglers Morris, Jones and Wilson fished 23 different piers from Atlantic Beach to Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina.
   
The North Carolina Fishing Pier Society (NCFPS) officially recognizes this achievement as a world record.
   
"The effort by these sportsmen is consistent with the ideals and principles of the NCPFS whose purpose is to promote the excitement and the rich history of North Carolina fishing piers," NCFPS founder and spokesman Al Baird said today, "This recognition should have been noted earlier, but we are pleased we can do it now".
   
Out of 23 piers fished in August 1990, only 13 still remain. They are Oceana, Bogue Inlet, Seaview, Ocean City, Surf City, Jolly Roger, Johnny Mercer's, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Yaupon Beach, Ocean Crest, Holden Beach and Ocean Isle Beach Pier.
   
The piers that are no longer in business and the reason that been shuttered include:
