San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 12, 2006 -- Academy of Art University is pleased to announce the addition a 13th major to their innovative and cutting-edge curriculum - The School of Digital Arts & Communication. Classes will begin spring semester for students pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts, an Associate of Arts degree, or taking continuing education classes.

The Digital Arts & Communications program was developed to address a need within the interactive industry for website designers specializing in usability. The curriculum integrates traditional art classes with new technologies and digital platforms. The steady growth of the internet has proved to be an effective and profitable venue, and the demand for communication devices such as cell phones, palm pilots and interactive television have generated a new genre of exciting career opportunities. "I feel that this program is going to fill a gap in the professional world", says Lourdes Livingston, Director of the School of Digital Arts & Communications.

Digital Arts and Communications will promote awareness of the user experience while developing creative practices that keep pace and set pace with ever-changing technologies. Students will graduate as specialists in areas such as Website Design, Usability, Interactive Modeling, Information Architecture, Prototyping and Testing, Interactive Information Graphics, Client and Server Side Internet Design, and Creative Programming. They will be website designers who will have the user experience in mind. Unlike the Computer Arts: New Media program, which focuses on print and graphic design, as well as interactive, Digital Arts & Communications focuses solely on interactive digital arts media. Students will graduate with a leg up in the industry and have an expanded scope of job opportunities at top major Internet companies than other graduates.

Founded in 1929, the Academy of Art University remains as one of the top art schools in the nation by providing the best art and design education to the future's top artists and designers. With the new Digital Arts & Communications major, the Academy of Art University abides by its founder's philosophy of imparting real world knowledge on students so that they can graduate and have a career doing what they love for a living.

Academy of Art University is nationally accredited by ACICS, NASAD, Council for Interior Design Accreditation (Formerly FIDER), (BFA-IAD), and NAAB (M-ARCH).
