The time is T- minus ten minutes and counting. The kids are in their life preservers and the cooler is packed. Soon boaters in Fort Lauderdale will be using some of the same technology used in the space shuttle program to make launching their boats easier and safer.
The Harborage Club - Fort Lauderdale has contracted with Ace World Companies to design and deliver a computerized lift and launch system for the first space age marina. The Dallas based engineering firm designs precision crane and hoist technology for the space shuttle program and the defense department.
An automated intelligence system will be used to locate and deliver boats up to 45 feet in length and 15 tons in weight. The system will be more dependable, cleaner and quieter than the traditional fork lift operations used in a most marinas. A fully automated, robotic parking system will also be part of the structure, delivering vehicles seamlessly to the front door.
This hurricane resistant, climate-controlled, state-of-the-art dry storage facility will provide deep-water access from its 16th Street's Seminole Canal location, just minutes from the Port Everglades Inlet in the heart of Fort Lauderdale.
The Harborage Club will also pay meticulous attention to owners' personal needs providing a rich array of yacht club amenities available to pamper and please. Owners can swim in the rooftop infinity pool. Or they may indulge in a deep muscle massage at the spa. Light snacks and beverages will be available at the poolside bar with dining in the grill and clubroom. The ship's store will be the place to shop for the very latest in nautical gear.
For more mundane tasks a business center will be available. A concierge service will be available to stock boats for an extended or day cruise. An on-site boat sales and service center will guarantee vessels will be ship shape and ready to set sail. While out on that long cruise, a professional rental management service will be available if or when an owners chooses to lease out his slip.
Offering a dramatic departure from traditional rack storage facilities, the modern building design by world-renown RTKL Architects, combines contemporary architecture with distinctive characteristics that are the signatures of this international firm's designs. The RTKL portfolio includes such Florida landmarks as Miami's Mandarin Oriental and the Ocean Club Key Biscayne.
