Stockholm, Sweden (Vocus) December 14, 2006
Bemz, the company famous in Europe for its Swedish-designed slipcovers for IKEA sofas, chairs and cushions, has expanded its range of patterns with a new collection, called Mysig. The Mysig collection evokes memories of the stylized designs of the Arts and Crafts era, and is for people who want to add a warm, cozy theme to their homes (mysig is actually Swedish for cozy).
The Mysig color palette features earth-inspired base colors, enhanced by accents of rich eggplant and teal blue -- great for the cooler seasons. "Momentum" is the signature design for the Mysig Collection, and takes its inspiration from nature, with muted, intertwined leaf forms in shades of green, giving a feeling of a period design with modern sensibilities. The "Harmony" design is lyrical and calming, and is available in gorgeous chestnut brown. "Toronto Ticking" offers whimsical pinstripes in shades of teal blue, khaki beige and chestnut brown.
Created by Bemz designer Katarina Wiklund, the new Mysig collection is available in 100 percent cotton. Bemz fabrics have been specially selected for their quality, fine finish and durability, and have been Sanforized to prevent shrinkage. All Bemz' sofa covers are machine washable, and everything is designed to be mix-and-match.
"It doesn't cost a fortune to give your living room a new look with extra-special Swedish style," says Bemz founder Lesley Pennington. "Bemz prices are very affordable, and because Americans don't have to pay European sales tax, the lower purchase price means that Bemz products shipped to American consumers cost about the same as they do for Europeans--and that includes shipping via UPS air."
A Canadian national who lived in California before moving to Sweden and starting her family, Pennington started Bemz and has turned it into a thriving operation by providing Swedish design at great prices to consumers in Britain, France and Germany. And, most recently, the United States.
Pennington has heard from U.S. customers that there's a real need for Bemz in the USA. "In addition to the cost savings of buying a slipcover on the internet, what sets Bemz apart from store-bought slipcovers is that we can offer a huge range of totally unique styles and patterns from which consumers can mix and match. You simply cannot buy this look in the United States unless you're willing to pay top-dollar prices on fabrics and spend a lot of time working with a seamstress."
A wide range of colors and styles, organized by themes
The entire line of Bemz slipcovers is machine washable and designed especially for IKEA furniture--even sofas that IKEA has discontinued. Mixing and matching is encouraged, and Bemz offers several collections of patterns and colors, thematically grouped to cater to specific environments or personal styles.
Try before you buy
The Bemz website lets consumers preview their fabric selection on any of the IKEA sofas or armchairs, and Bemz will send free swatches of any fabric.
