Netsweeper (http://www.netsweeper.co.uk) is the first Internet content filtering company to pass the stringent Becta Accreditation of Internet Services to Education scheme.
With 20% penetration of the UK education market (directly and through relationships with Synetrix and Fujitsu Services) the Becta Accreditation success enhances Netsweeper position as leading Internet filter provider to UK educational institutions. The educational market is diverse in terms of both school size and learner type, ranging from rural primary schools with less than a hundred pupils, through city centre secondaries with thousands of pupils from many backgrounds to FE colleges with older learners. Finding an Internet content filtering solution that fits this range of diversity of pupils is not easy.
Becta accreditation acknowledges that Netsweeper has demonstrated a sound understanding of the UK education market and its varied needs, and responded with a product that can be easily and effectively deployed. David Goodyear had this to say: "I am pleased to tell you that the evaluations carried out today proved successful. The filtering successfully passed all five categories."
A key component of successfully achieving Becta accreditation was Netsweeper's ability to securely block Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) listed websites. Access to these sites is also reported by the Netsweeper Internet content filtering solution.
Perry Roach, CEO of Netsweeper stated, "We are delighted to achieve BECTA accreditation at the first attempt, having already been part of Internet Services that achieved BECTA accreditation at LGFL, EMBC and Leeds Learning. The Netsweeper filter has been specifically built to address the unique challenges that RBC’s, LA’s and individual schools face when making the Internet available to pupils. We believe Netsweeper should be the natural choice of all educational establishments and look forward to working to build upon our success to date.
