Former "Career Criminal" Tells the Story of His Conversion

Reverend Walter Wilson shares how drug use, criminal activity, and jail time gave way to religious vocation in "Against All Odds: A Harlem Story."

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 17, 2006

Reverend Walter Wilson describes himself as "a man who believes in hope." An African-American who struggled against the dynamics of integration, he offers his testimony in "Against All Odds: A Harlem Story," a book that has powerful implications for Black youth and men of today. Sparing no detail of his own descent into crime as a career, Wilson offers an alternative mindset, incorporating faith in God and faith in oneself, to those who may feel they have no choice but to break the law in order to survive or succeed.

Wilson participated in street life, used and sold drugs, and served jail time before he came to believe in Jesus Christ, the catalyst that led to his service as a preacher, counselor, and relief worker serving the Harlem community; through these outlets, he promotes a message of hope and possibility to all African Americans.

"Against All Odds," Wilson's autobiography, has been said to have been divinely inspired. In fact, Sister Raenetta Sylcott, a member of Wilson's former congregation at Bethel Gospel Assembly, decided to act as ghostwriter for the book after receiving word in a vision that she was to assist the reverend with the completion of his memoirs.

Above all, Walter Wilson's story is that of a real man with real faults. While acknowledging the effects of the cultural upheavals he experienced growing up, Wilson accepts responsibility for his mistakes and attributes his successes to God. In an age characterized by many as one of despair, greed, and hopelessness, his testimony is a beacon of light.
