Michele Guieu's Painting "How do you know?" Selected for the Juried Biennal at the Cannon Gallery, Carlsbad, California

The awaited Juried Biennal - an important showcase for artists in San Diego County - exhibits a selection of thirty three diverse works, and Michele Guieu's "How do you know?", is among them. The exhibition is juried by Elisabeth Armstrong, Deputy Director for Programs and Chief Curator at the Orange County Museum of Art and will be held from January 7 through March 4, 2007.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 17, 2006 -- Michele Guieu's new series of portraits is almost entirely generated with Photoshop, using digital photos of her family and landscapes she's visited. The large diptych "How do you know?" is excerpt from that series. The journey from computer to canvas gives the paintings a unique twist. Michele Guieu explains: "I really like the resulting boldness with almost solid colors layered one on top of another. I use Photoshop as a layering tool for my paintings. I try - and then validate - various techniques: framing, transparencies and scaling of the different elements."

Since the beginning of her research, she has tried to simplify the photos she has taken, to eliminate many of their details, keeping only what she finds essential. "The way I organize space is simple, the human element essential, and the colors few. I use acrylic on canvas for my paintings and sometimes stamp texts on the background, letter by letter."

"This series of paintings is about my family and the landscapes I've visited; it expresses my fascination for the mystery they represent for me. I am watching my two young children discover the world, learning two languages and starting to write, talk and draw... I have more questions now than ever before."

She is also developing a body of artwork based on her interest in what is going on in the world, like the portrait she made in January 2006 of reporter Jill Carroll, held hostage in Iraq, and paintings of soldiers in Iraq.

She recently participated in the 2006 International Exhibition at the San Diego Art Institute, the 2006 All Media Juried exhibition at the Palos Verdes Art Center, the "OMA 4" at the Oceanside Museum of Art (2005), and won several awards.
