On Saturday December 16, the MMA Cast became the top Mixed Martial Arts podcast on iTunes. The MMA Cast surpassed Sherdog's Beatdown for the top spot on the popular iTunes service.

"We were surprised to see that after just six weeks of shows our audience had grown enough to surpass Sherdog's Beatdown." said Mike Watkins, one of the show's hosts. On Saturday, the MMA Cast was ranked 68th on iTunes, and Sherdog was ranked 76th under the podcast sports category.

"Sherdog is the most comprehensive source of MMA information and to surpass them at any point is an enormous achievement for us. We know that the ratings of the podcasts change regularly, but this is still a major milestone for us."

Watkins credits most of the success of the show to the fact that the show tries to ask unique questions to give fans an additional perspective into the personalities and experiences of the fighters.

"Fighting is an individual sport, so when fans gain additional insight into the minds, and lives of the fighters, it changes the way that they view the sport. We have received a tremendous amount of feedback from our listener's telling us that they have become much bigger fans of the fighters after they hear their interviews on our show."

We really try to get one or two great answers or interesting items from each fighter during their interview. So far we have heard some truly amazing answers from guests such as Rory Singer, Travis Lutter, Sean Sherk, Bobby Southworth, Kenny Florian, Carlos Newton, and Rich Franklin.

"We also tried to produce a show that would focus on current events in the world of MMA and interviews with fighters, promoters and coaches. The goal was to provide a comprehensive look into the world of MMA. We wanted the fans to understand what it took to put on an event, what was needed to train for one, what happens backstage before the fighters entrance, as well as what happens when the bell rings. There are many MMA fans out there that are looking for more than the brief interview they get to see on TV" .

The MMA Cast was founded by Atlanta Entrepreneur Mike Watkins. The show is broadcast live on Wednesday nights on AM 1620 with Mike's Co-host Steven Robbins. The show can also be heard live worldwide on radiosandysprings.com, or it can be downloaded on http://www.mmacast.com. Listeners can also get free updates of the show by going to
