Chattanooga, TN (PRWEB) December 19, 2006 -–
Clarity®,a division of Plantronics, Inc. (NYSE: PLT) and the nation’s leading supplier of amplified telephones and other communications devices for the hearing impaired, recently donated TTY devices to the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library and its branches.
A TTY, short for text telephone, is a special device that allows people who are deaf, have suffered hearing loss, or have a speech impairment to communicate via a standard telephone line. Messages are typed back and forth and viewed on a text screen.
“This is the first time our hearing impaired branch patrons have had access to this important service,” said Andria Davis, Community Relations Coordinator of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library. “We greatly appreciate Clarity’s generosity and their support of the library and the community.”
A TTY was donated to each of the following four local branches: Eastgate, Northgate, South Chattanooga and Ooltewah/Collegedale. Two TTY’s were made available at the library’s main branch.
“Clarity is dedicated to the improvement and enrichment of the lives of those suffering from hearing loss, as well as those who are Deaf,” said Carsten Trads, president of Clarity. “Since Clarity is based in Chattanooga, it seems right for our outreach to start here at home.”
