Amsterdam, The Netherlands (PRWEB) December 21, 2006
Netherlands-based mobile entertainment and solutions provider Mowave has announced the launch of a new social media service powered by its OPNR user-generated content platform. The service, called Self Central, is available on the Vodafone live! portal of Vodafone New Zealand.
Self Central is a mobile community that allows users to create a mobile room and upload images, video and audio to this personal space. Other users can access the room and download multimedia content, sign a guest book, or invite the room owner to chat. Users who set up rooms can also personalize them with banners, icons, slogans, blogs and more. Top content is also selected and presented in a variety of content categories for easy discovery and downloading.
The platform also lets users earn from their rooms, adding credit on their monthly phone bill for any downloads of content they have placed on the service.
"Our goal was to a create a service that would be compelling for a range of users: from someone with just a couple of minutes of free time who wants to download a video straight from the homepage, to the user who creates a completely customized environment that reflects their personality and shows off their entire image and video collection," said Mowave President Andy Schachtel.
"Our platform is more than just a blogging service or user-generated content channel; it's a completely new way for users to approach their phones. Now users can really own the media and benefit from what they create. They are media producers, brand creators, marketers, and micro entrepreneurs. We're talking about an entirely new level of connection between users and the network. And this is just the beginning," he added.
Giles Richter, CEO of Mowave, concludes: "Our experience delivering entertainment services and integrating with operators around the world has given us insight into vital issues related to their business models, content standards, security and rights management, and the user experience. We made sure to address these needs and integrate valuable operator feedback in developing our platform. This has really smoothed the roll out of Self Central and, we think, ensured its success."
Mowave now plans to launch the service on portals worldwide, driving new MMS traffic, data usage, growing the user base, and reducing churn.
