OpenMFG Follows ERP Upgrade with Open Source Report Writer

OpenRPT 2.0 includes platform and usability enhancements, free and open source.

Norvolk, VA (PRWEB) December 20, 2006 -- OpenMFG, the leading provider of open source-based enterprise solutions for small manufacturers and distributors, today announced the second major release of OpenRPT, its cross-platform, open source report writer and rendering engine. OpenRPT is available under a dual-license model, either free and open source under the GNU General Public License, or – for organizations wishing to opt out of the GPL’s requirements – a commercial source code license with OpenMFG.

OpenRPT 2.0 was retooled from the ground up to take full advantage of the underlying Qt 4 framework. Qt is an open source, comprehensive development framework that includes an extensive array of features, capabilities and tools that enable development of high-performance, cross-platform rich-client and server-side applications. Among the new OpenRPT features enabled by updating from Qt 3 to Qt 4 is the ability to export to Adobe PDF natively for both the OpenRPT API and the rendering application.

Other new features include support for generic ODBC database connections (the first release only supported the open source PostgreSQL database – and native PostgreSQL support continues in 2.0); enhanced page break functionality; and power tools for developers such as command-line arguments and parameters, multiple document printing, and advanced error trapping.

Since it was released as an open source project in 2005, OpenRPT has been downloaded over 30,000 times, and is in use in dozens of countries throughout the world. Available for Windows, Linux/Unix, and Mac OS X, it is completely embeddable by third-party developers, or can run as an end-user desktop tool.

OpenMFG's flagship product is an advanced ERP software solution built with open source components, such as Qt, the Linux operating system, the PostgreSQL database, and OpenRPT itself. Available OpenMFG modules include Inventory Management, Product Definition and Costing, Work Order Management, Manufacturing and Scheduling, Capacity Planning, Purchase Order Management, Sales Order Management, Customer Relationship Management, Shipping and Receiving, Project Management, Sales Analysis, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and a full General Ledger.

The OpenRPT project is hosted at both SourceForge.net, the world's largest open source software development website, and pgFoundry.org – an implementation of the same underlying project management software targeted specifically for supporting PostgreSQL-related applications.
