Opposites Do Attract ... And the Results Can Be Heartbreaking

Peter Cowlam's compelling novel, "Marisa," is a poignant reminder of how one's station in life too often determines the path that life will take.

Totnes, Devon, England (PRWEB) December 22, 2006 -- In "Marisa," Peter Cowlam's third novel, the author creates a world of highly likable and convincing characters, individuals drawn together by love ... and then driven tragically apart.

Bruce and Marisa are a businessman and artist, pragmatist and dreamer. From their first meeting to a chance encounter a quarter-century later, the same undercurrents of values and mores that drove them apart as young people are still in play.

The early love story is heartrending, first giving hope to the reader that there still exists that moment when love steps forward and binds two very good and worthy people, and then delivering the painful reminder that while opposites might very well attract, the resulting relationship is never easy, often sad. When, in middle-age, Bruce stumbles across Marisa and stirs ancient hopes of the perfect love, there is tragedy writ all over it. If ever 'east is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet' can be adapted to fiction, Peter Cowlam has delivered the perfect example.

"Marisa" is a touching, beautifully crafted novel by an author and poet who understands so well the joys of love found and the heartache of love lost ... and how class and heredity too often dictate how lives are lived.
