2006 National Film Registry Picks to be Announced on December 27
Librarian of Congress James H. Billington will announce the 2006 selections to the National Film Registry on Wednesday, December 27.
(Vocus/PRWEB ) December 20, 2006 -- Librarian of Congress James H. Billington will announce the 2006 selections to the National Film Registry on Wednesday, December 27. This group of titles will bring the total number of films on the registry to 450.
Under the terms of the National Film Preservation Act of 1992, each year the Librarian of Congress, with advice from the National Film Preservation Board, names 25 films to the National Film Registry to be preserved for all time. The films are chosen because they are "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant.
A media repository (URL: http://www.loc.gov/nationalfilmregistry) will be available to the press to download materials, high-resolution images, audio and broadcast-quality video clips. The National Film Registry media Web page will be active for 10 days beginning Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 8:00 a.m. (ET). Video clips are also available on Beta SP format.
