Southland artists Karen Fadel and Dustin Otterbach donate original art to support efforts of Los Angeles' Chapter, Habitat for Humanity's rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Reigon. Their pieces become centerpieces for the Beverly Hills raffle to raise funds and continued awareness. The event, brainchild of the team at Maruo Hair Studio in the Rodeo Collection, developed to include many generous shops and services. Fine art photographer Karen Fadel domated a numbered framed image of the Venice canals from her Italian Collection, and Dustin Otterbach's free standing abstract painting on 'metal' as canvas were featured prizes for the fund-raiser.

The New Year kicked off with generous efforts continuing to spread through the season and well into '06 at the Rodeo Collection. Mauro Hair Studio spearheaded relief efforts that involved neighbors from Beverly Hills to Orange County. Donations of fabulous items from local businesses and Laguna Beach artists, Karen Fadel and Dustin Otterbach, were featured on the block to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Both artists, Fadel and Otterbach joined the efforts and contributed pieces from their personal collections. The event serves as a reminder that the far corner of our country and the displaced people still need help.

Karen Fadel is an accomplished photographer who travels the world photographing cities from New York and Paris to small fishing villages and other less traveled locals. Ms. Fadel's photographs communicate scenes and faces unique to the setting and are so expressive, one feels like they have stepped into her experience. Fadel's work is notable for captured beauty and her processing and printing techniques offer a dreamlike quality to each piece. Fadel transfers her images from film to paper in a process that includes boiling paper. The results: Fadel's own sophisticated

signature that has landed her body of work in various galleries and the prestigious Laguna Beach

"Festival of Arts." Ms. Fadel's pieces are collected

by a growing number of fans with both traditional and contemporary tastes. She continues to hone the printing method, constantly experimenting and refining her process, so no two prints are alike. Fadel's prolific body of work is a combination of photography and technology and brings a perspective and new visual dimension to her subjects.

Ironically, Ms. Fadel's "Venice Canals" photograph on exhibit in The Rodeo Collection's raffle was won by a well known Italian import himself, Vito, hairstylist to the stars of Mauro Salon. Today, Fadel's whimsical shot of the Italian City hangs on Vito's Los Angles walls serves as a pleasant reminder of home.

Karen Fadel is the Manager of Creative Services for BSH Home Appliances, a World-Wide manufacturer of the prestigious appliance brands Bosch, Siemens, Thermador and Gaggenau. Her fine eye and degree in English Literature earned at UCLA are utilized commercially in this award winning marketing division.

Ms. Fadel helms Creative Services Design Department for the BSH brand marketing division. Her imprint on worldwide brands includes Bosch and Siemens.

Fadel is proud that her art has positioned her to

'give back.'

"My goals include helping to make a

difference in our world. I hope that my artistic contributions can serve to improve others' lives. Participating in our community adds passion to my work."

Dustin Otterbach is a Laguna Beach native. His artistic passion began at a very early age, and he experimented with clay, woods, metals, and paint. In time, the he realized that his 'canvas' was everywhere. Otterbach saw beauty in discarded pieces, in junk yards like metals and other materials. Today, his pieces are collected nationwide.

Sheet metal has played a large part in his most recent works. He uses colorful enamels and creates his own refreshing approach that has garnered him great attention in the contemporary modern art world. Otterbach delivered a stunning 8 by 18 metal work that he removed from the walls of his own home-in hopes to rebuilding the homes of others.

Today, that piece hangs in the home of the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles...the winner of the Rodeo Collection raffle to benefit Habitat for Humanity Efforts.
