SPIE—The International Society for Optical Engineering—Donates to Universities Impacted by Hurricane Katrina

SPIE—The International Society for Optical Engineering, has announced a donation to Louisiana universities in the form of textbooks or similar publications materials to support the rebuilding of their damaged libraries, devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Bellingham, WA (PRWEB) February 3, 2006 -- SPIE, The International Society for Optical Engineering, has announced a donation to Louisiana universities in the form of textbooks or similar publications materials to support the rebuilding of their damaged libraries, devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Endowment offers were made to the University of New Orleans, Dillard University, Loyola University, Tulane University, Xavier University and Louisiana State University Health Science Center.

the SPIE community recognizes the significant damage and challenges caused by Katrina and hopes that by donating publications to libraries it can make a modest but useful contribution to the rebuilding of those universities.

Among the donations were the SPIE Milestone Series of Selected Papers, which includes approximately 180 volumes, containing many of the seminal research papers from the world literature on key areas of optical science and technology; and a three year online subscription to the Journal of Biomedical Optics, and the entire collection of Progress in Biomedical Optics Proceedings for 2004 and 2005.

Eric Pepper, Director of Publications for SPIE, states, “the SPIE community recognizes the significant damage and challenges caused by Katrina and hopes that by donating publications to libraries it can make a modest but useful contribution to the rebuilding of those universities.”

SPIE is a not-for-profit professional society that has become the largest international force for the exchange, collection and dissemination of knowledge in optics, photonics and imaging.
