President Bush Requests $64 Billion for Federal IT Budget

The Office of Management and Budget projects information technology spending for Fiscal Year 2007. The P2C2 Group's newsletter summarizes trends.

(PRWEB) February 9, 2006 -- The president's budget request for Fiscal Year 2007 included $64 billion for information technology, with $30 billion earmarked for the Department of Defense and nearly $34 billion for civilian agencies. The Departments of Health and Human Services and Homeland Security are slated to receive a combined total of nearly $10 billion. The largest gainers were Corps of Engineers and USAID.

The budget request, submitted to Congress, does not provide detail for IT outlays at Defense. The actual budget may vary from the president's request: For example, the initial request for FY 2006 was $65 billion but later reduced to $62.5 billion.

More details are presented in the P2C2 Group's newsletter, available at http://www.p2c2group.com/feb06budget.html. The newsletter has been published for 10 years as the FEDERAL SECTOR REPORT, and visitors can also sign up for a free subscription. The newsletter offers tips about how to plan major IT projects and programs, get budgets approved, improve procurement strategies, and strengthen project management.

The newsletter focuses on IT Capital Planning and Investment Control (CPIC).
