Scientology President Calls On Religions To Unite To Eradicate Drug Pandemic

Church of Scientology International president Rev. Heber C. Jentzsch today appealed to all religions to join forces to fight the war on drugs through education. He emphasized that unless we stop the demand for drugs, starting with children, we are losing the war, and pledged to make anti-drug educational materials available to religious communities. A recent report released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shows a worrying increase in the number of preteens in treatment for drug addiction.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 9, 2006 -- Church of Scientology International president Rev.

"We need a global approach to the drug pandemic that is tearing apart the very fabric of our society. Churches have always been a beacon of safety and hope for their communities. Only by working together and empowering every single individual with the truth about drugs and the damage they wreak, can we end the trend of drug abuse and lost lives," said Rev. Jentzsch.

In the last decade, the Church has printed and distributed more than eight million informational brochures laying out the dangers of marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and heroin. The information program has also included 224,220 drug awareness billboards and posters, 45 million fliers, 89,000 public awareness events and 10,200 newspaper and television stories promoting a drug-free message - all financed by the Church of Scientology and its members. In 2005 alone, the Church’s campaign brought the anti-drug message to close to 50 million people internationally.

Based on the proven effectiveness of its anti-drug literature, in the coming months, churches of Scientology around the world will provide materials to religious organizations and institutions.

Further information on the Church's anti-drug campaign can be found at www.drugsalvage.org.
